Issues with Webpages
We have discovered in the past few months that some pages from certain Servers do not in fact load into PMI - most noted are Fortune City and Freeserve. I have requested some server info from both parties, but have had no response (hence these pages now reside on Geocities). Some pages also have problems, very heavy CGI Scripting can cause issues.
Palmtop Magazine, an excellent site cannot be read by PMI, written in GoLive Cyberstudio (mac, non html2) results in a blank directory structure being displayed. If anyone has any ideas as to why, please mail me here at ro.cutler@virgin.net and I will place the info on this page.
Redirectional services
A lot of people are starting to use redirectional services (nice little short urls) like jump.to/fred. I even use move.to/ro, but recent developments have killed off PMIs ability to access the services (noteably the largest-V3).
If you come across these issues email the author or the pages for the true url.
Psimail Corporate
There is another Psimail product for Corporate email collection, aptly name just PSIMAIL. This connects to your work PC using either a modem, dial in or connect directly through cabling. Corp connects to both Microsoft Mail or Lotus' CC:Mail. I am currently contemplating producing pages for this corporate product, but have no interest from the web yet. The newsgroups have only had 3 mails concerning Psimail Corp (PMC) in the last 2 months. If you are interested and need a little help, I can provide that for you, mail me.
Connection hangs, "Connecting to the Internet" displayed forever
If you try to connect to the Internet, ant the message Connecting to the Internet just stays on your screen for (apparently) forever with no further progress, then do the following:
Go to Setup, select the Set preferences command from the Special menu, and set Log IP packets to Yes
Attempt another Connect. After a while, cancel the (unsuccessful) connection and then select the View
session log command from the Special menu
Look for the PPP-LCP Config ACK line. Study the lines immediately after it. If it looks like this...
Packet..then the authentication of the PPP link has failed. This means your login or your Password has been refused. Check the spelling of both, and check if they are entered exactly as you have received them from your provider. Some systems are case sensitive, and you must use upper and/or lower case as required.
SYS$SOCK.$nn - Process exited - Exit number 25
Normally appears because PsiMail Internet has run out of system memory.
SYS$SOCK.$nn - Process exited - Exit number 55
Normally appears because PsiMail Internet is overloaded with data (the incoming data is arriving too fast for the TCP/IP socket to handle). Try reducing the serial port speed, reducing the modem CONNECT speed (use appropriate init string - see modem manual), and make sure hardware handshaking is on (RTS/CTS). Never use XON/XOFF handshaking.
This can occurs if a corrupted file, or a file with long to: or cc:(bug psm) is in first position on the server. Use your mail client on your PC/Mac to retrieve your mail.
Alternatively use Jochens Telnet program (from his page on Links, to connect you your pop3 mail server typing
Obtuse error messages appear (eg: Data transmission error)
Most error messages appear because PsiMail Internet has run out of system memory.
PsiMail Internet requires a lot of system memory to run. You should always close all applications before going online. As a general rule, you should have >300K system memory free before starting any PsiMail Internet module. To determine the current amount of free system memory, start Calc, and enter CALL($80) *16. The result is free system memory in bytes. Enter CALL($80)*16/1024 for result in kilobytes. This calculation also works with any Evaluate command.
Could not connect to the Internet - Communication error
This normally means that PsiMail Internet could not initialise the serial port. Check the following...
Some system memory appears to be lost after a session. Sometimes the Sys$sock TCP/IP socket does not unload (especially after a manually aborted session). Use Spy or JBLaunch to kill the rogue Sys$sock process
Modem disconnects unexpectantly
If the modem is hanging up the telephone line before it should, check that the DCD (Data Carrier Detect) pin is correctly wired. With no DCD signal and DCD handshaking turned on, PMI hangs right after the connection is made. If in doubt of your connections, ensure you are using an original Psion modem cable or Psion null-modem adaptor with your modem.
It used to work fine, but suddenly I cannot connect to the Internet
The PsiMail Internet connection script includes some Stop script when "
