Psiwin 2,2 - My Psion Icon still visable after uninstall, how do I remove them
A Hideous program, especially for Series 3 machines. Occasionally the MY PSION icon is left behind. A glitch in the uninstall scripts. This information is stored in the system registry, and needs to be modified using REGEDIT.
There are two instances stored in the registry:
hkey_local_machine /software /microsoft /windows /explorer /desktop /namespace and
hkey_local_machine /software /microsoft /windows /explorer /shell extensions /approved
Removing the two entries in the keys above, will remove the icon once you close Regedit down.
Does Psimail Internet support PAP or CHAP?
With PPP, each system may require its peer to authenticate itself using one of two authentication protocols. These are the Password Authentication Protocol (PAP), and the Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP). When a connection is established, each end can request the other to authenticate itself, regardless of whether it is the caller or the callee. Below I will loosely talk of `client' and `server' when I want to distinguish between the authenticating system and the authenticator. A PPP daemon can ask its peer for authentication by sending yet another LCP configuration request identifying the desired authentication protocol.
Thus we can see that one of PAP and CHAP are compulsory.
This is further confirmed by the fact the PMI works with ISPs that use no scripting. As soon as the modem connection is established, the PPP connection starts, and authentication occurs at the PPP level. The authentication is PAP/CHAP.

Finding DNS
the DNS stands for Domain Name Server, which holds the names of the host computers in the network. Each ISP has a different DNS, so you need to find out the the IP address is of the DNS, as Psimail will not accept a dynamic figure.
To do this dial up using your PC, and once connected use the program WINIPCFG. It will be in your windows diectory (just run it from start>run>winipcfg)
Select more from the buttons, and you will see the Dns' IP address. there might well be two, primary and secondary - you can use either.
Another alternative is contacting your ISP, and just ask them, support pages on their website might give you some clues too.
What is Caller Line Identity (CLI)? How is it used by ISPs?
All BT residential lines forward CLI unless you have chosen to permanently withhold your number. Some users may also be on an older exchange which does not support CLI.
Some ISPs (Freeserve for example) will not be able to provide access to the Internet if CLI information is not forwarded.
Some company exchanges have CLI barred as standard, this will cause a similar problem.
If you have chosen to permanently withhold your CLI and want to use these kind of ISPs, it is possible to remove the CLI bar on a per call basis.
This is done by programming 1470 into your dialler, and when the call is over CLI barring will automatically be reinstated. Regrettably, customers on older UXD5 exchanges will not be able to use these kind of services anyway. Cable and Wireless do not support CLI either.
Change the setup using Psion+U and add instead of the 0 on national dialling - to 1470, and change the 845 to 0845. Inform me if you have any more issues.
Compuserve Mail
You will need to change your Compuserve Mail account to a POP3 account for PMI to work.This page tells you how.
It in essence gives you a POP3 email account. Any mail sent to your @compuserve.com address will be redirected into your new account. You cannot however change it back once you have moved over.
